This is brief description of the band and its activities. Westerly Showband is in fact a wind band, sometimes called a concert wind band; we chose the word "Showband" since it better describes the kind of entertaining music we play. It is also an amateur "community band" which means it involves itself in various community music events. Like most similar bands it is self-governing and non-profit making.

It has been in existence in various forms since 1987 when it was founded by its present Musical Director, Chris Harris. Having been a training band and a mixed ability band it was re-formed in 2014 into an experienced level wind ensemble. The smaller size about 15 at present) recognised the need for a band which could play in smaller venues; the ability level identified the requirement for a band which could play at a musically skilled level.

The band takes seriously its role as a community organisation and regularly plays at a number of community projects, local government functions, ex-servicemen's association occasions, charity and fund-raising events etc.

The Band is based in an area which covers Bristol and South Gloucestershire,. This is where most of our members live and where most of our performances take place. Occasionally we play in the B.A.N.E.S. area.

The Band Musical Director is well qualified and experienced. His ambition is to establish a permanent, first-class band In Bristol, and the surrounding area.
